"Roger, I had a very disturbing dream last night. In this dream I found myself making love to a strange man. Only I'm having trouble you see, because he's old... and dying... and he smells bad, and I find him repulsive. But then he tells me that everything is erotic, that everything is sexual. You know what I mean? He tells me that even old flesh is erotic flesh. That disease is the love of two alien kinds of creatures for each other. That even dying is an act of eroticism. That talking is sexual. That breathing is sexual. That even to physically exist is sexual. And I believe him, and we make love beautyfully."
"You carry the plague, you killed hundreds
THE BROOD (1979)
"They'll kill you if you try to take her
away from them."
"This was a test campaign used in 1947 to market a new product. The product was a drug, a tranquilizer called 'Ephemerol'. It was aimed at pregnant women. If it had worked it would have been marketed all over North America. But the campaign failed and the drug failed, because it had a side effect on the unborn children. An invisible side effect."
"It created Scanners."
"The battle for the mind of North America will be fought in the video arena: the Videodrome. The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye. Therefore, the television screen is part of the physical structure of the brain. Therefore, whatever appears on the television screen emerges as raw experience for those who watch it. Therefore, television is reality, and reality is less than television."
THE DEAD ZONE (1983)
"In the last few months I've done some research into the area of psychic phenomena. Several cases such as yours have been documented, I was surprised to discover. And the pattern is always the same. As the spells, the visions, grow stronger and more powerful, the body weakens. But I don't really need any research or documentation to see that this thing is sucking the life right out of you. One look at you can tell me that."
THE FLY (1986)
"You're afraid to dive into the plasma pool, aren't you? You're afraid to be destroyed and recreated, aren't you? I bet you think you woke me up about the flesh, don't you? But you only know society's straight line about the flesh. You can't penetrate beyond society's sick, great fear of the flesh. Drink deep or taste not the plasma spring! See what I'm saying? I'm not just talking about sex and penetration. I'm talking about penetration beyond the veil of the flesh, a deep, penetrating dive into the plasma pool!"
DEAD RINGERS (1988)
"Can I trust you to do that while I go to
the city and don't watch you?"
NAKED LUNCH (1991)
"(...) and the asshole said to him: 'It is you who will shut up in the end, not me... because we don't need you around here anymore. I can talk and eat and shit.' After that, he began waking up in the morning with transparent jelly like a tadpole's tail all over his mouth. He would tear it off his mouth and the pieces would stick to his hands like burning gasoline jelly and grow there. So, finally, his mouth sealed over and the whole head would have amputated spontaneously except for the eyes, you dig? That's the one thing that the asshole couldn't do was see. It needed the eyes."
M. BUTTERFLY (1993)
"You made me see the beauty of the story, of her
death. It's... it's pure sacrifice. He's not worthy of it, but what can she do? She loves him so
much. It's very beautiful."
"The car crash is a fertilizing rather
than a destructive event. A liberation of sexual energy mediating the
sexuality of those who have died with an intensity that's impossible in
any other form. Now, experience that, to live that, that is... That's my
"Where are our real bodies? Are they all
right? What if they're hungry? What if there's danger?"
"Mr. Cleg... How many shirts are you
wearing? One, two, three... Four! Now really, is this absolutely
